Environmental
issues are an important part of Semitropic’s mission and purpose. The
district’s service area is rich in wildlife history and a number of
tributaries and wetlands provide a sacred ecosystem for foul, flora and
wildlife.
Semitropic Water
Storage District has a number of environmental projects that are
important to the district, to the community, and to the habitats and
wildlife throughout the area. Environmental excellence will continue to
be a top priority.
Hydrogen Vehicle Update
Semitropic
is currently looking into replacing its fleet of vehicles with
hydrogen-fueled models. Doing so would present a number of benefits for
the district. First of all, the auto industry no longer manufactures
vehicles equipped for propane fuel, which Semitropic currently uses.
This means the district would have to revert to gasoline or diesel
fuel, which requires reinstallation of bulk storage tanks underground —
not a desirable option from an environmental perspective.
In
addition to proving more beneficial to the environment, hydrogen-fueled
vehicles will also be easier on the district's pocketbook. .
